Slate Digital’s Virtual Mix Rack (VMR) meticulously models legendary analogue hardware to deliver punch, warmth and richness to any track or session.
VMR is a collection of seven tools for adding exceptional analogue modelling to digital mixes.
In the spectrum shaping camp are Slate’s FG-N and FG-S, which recreate classic EQs for exquisite filtering and tonality. FG-N is based on a vintage British design, while FG-S models a versatile mixing console EQ brilliantly suited to almost any material.
Meanwhile on compression duties, Slate’s FG-401 plug is based on a hugely popular modern VCA compressor which utilises two distinct circuit paths, while the FG-116 in contrast offers a more classic effect in-line with traditional American FET compressors.
The final ingredients to the VMR masterpiece include Trimmer, a simple gain management and phase reverse control which can be precisely monitored at its output; Monster, a compressor that emulates the extreme 76-style all-button “British Mode”; and finally Revival, Slate’s black magic tool which fixes top and bottom end for an inarguably “better” sound.
